summary
Practice and develop skills in motion design by creating several motion pieces for NPR. My goal for this project was to create a few brief online promotional pieces.
I wanted to challenge myself and see if I could create a project that reflects what NPR is as a whole.
the solution
Use the learned skills and knowledge and apply them to a real-world challenge. Create sketches, Research, and make sure the design is an improvement - not a hindrance.

Preliminary Sketches
"Get it out of your head"
I always start with sketches before diving deep into a project. For me, sketching is faster and I'm able to see where my head is at while I'm putting my pen to paper.
I usually have lots of ideas running through my mind, so it's easier to get the rough ideas out first, to make more room for the better ideas to form and develop.
NPR Motion Design #1
"Motion for Media Platforms"
After running through my sketches and making few decisions, comes the final process of creating a motion design based project.
With my research on NPR, their mission statements, beliefs, and creative content - I created a brief motion project that is meant for quick access platforms such as Youtube and ad breaks on TV.
NPR is mainly known and loved for their straightforward and diverse information.
This motion piece should encapsulate the same creative goal, showcasing that NPR isn't just a radio platform but much more.
NPR Motion Design #2
"This is NPR"
The quick, simple three words covers all that NPR is and what they share.
I thought to create a project piece that went slightly deeper, revealing the categories that make NPR, NPR.

NPR Motion Design #3
"Intro to NPR Creative"
This is a motion based project dedicated as an intro piece for pop culture focused segments such as Tiny Desk Concerts, Yearly List of Favorite Book Reads, Author Interviews, All Songs Considered, and so much more.
I first developed the shapes through sketches and finalized them through Photoshop and Illustrator. The different shapes and colors is intended to match the vibrant and distinct quality of NPR's creative side.
Surprisingly, finding fonts was difficult to do. I had a mental guidebook to follow. Each font needed to be legible; even in rapid succession, and they had to work well with the myriad of colors and shapes already there.
After finalizing the major details, I added the final touches in After Effects, creating the motion designed scenes for this particular piece.
