summary
Design-a-thon. 4 strangers. 24 hours. Camp Figma.
Camp Figma was a 24-hour design challenge, consisting entirely of national and international remote collaborations during a global pandemic.

With the prompt, Bring More Joy into the World,
I teamed up with 3 other incredibly talented designers, tasked to create an app that would bring users more joy. We were all strangers and first-time design-a-thoners. We each came from different parts of the US and other nations with a 12 hour time difference.

the solution
What Do You Need Right Now? is an illustrative app that helps users feel at ease as they navigate through brightly colored biomes and a self-questionnaire to check in on their personal mental health and improve their mood.
What's the goal of this project?

What brings you joy or happiness?

Who is the target audience of our project?

What is the one of the most common issues in this world
that apps try to solve?

How can we create a unique and effective solution to a common or growing problem?

Lastly, can we "solve" this issue in 24 hours?

These are the very questions that my team and I asked ourselves and each other when we first began brainstorming what sort of project to create that fits the prompt, Bring More Joy into the World.

Following the topic, for 5 minutes we each wrote down what brought us the most joy in our lives. After 5 minutes, we compared our notes and found a common theme. Puzzles.

Sure, we had other things like food, chatting with friends and family, watching tv/movies, and reading ...but we all had the word
puzzles on our list. This was just the 4 of us however. What did other people do to bring joy into their lives?
USER RESEARCH 👇🏽
Survey Link: https://forms.gle/rDh2U1H6QZGg8ipY7

We used most of our listed joys and placed them in a Google Survey.

Then, we sent the survey to the Camp Figma slack channel and got answers.

Based on the responses to the survey, we ultimately decided that tackling mental health was a good venture.

The challenge is that mental health apps have been done a million and one times. Everyone and their mother made a mental health app or has downloaded a mental health app at some point. App stores are saturated with mental health apps.

So, how can we make ours different the rest? What would make our app so special? That was a huge challenge; making our app different, inclusive, and fun for those who need it. But, we took it on and had fun doing it.
